Carla Sofía Ordonez, an artist and photographer based in Tijuana, Mexico, has lived and studied across the United States and Mexico. In 2018, she co-founded Yerbabuena, a space dedicated to showcasing local artists. Her site-specific creation serves as a sister to an installation at Yerbabuena, physically constructing another bridge between San Diego and Tijuana. Centering around a photograph and a suspended installation of clouds, Ordonez crafts a 30,000-foot perspective, with three-dimensional shapes simulating an aerial view of agricultural plots transversing the border. As the viewer peers into the center of the photograph, the image zooms out, revealing the skyline of Tijuana. The piece serves as a reminder that design encompasses both the big picture and the little details, inviting exploration as close as next door.
