To create Border Rub, emerging artist Kate Clark collaborated with officials at Customs and Border Protection to make litho crayon rubbings of the bronze Great Seal of the United States of America located at the San Ysidro/Tijuana border crossing. Clark documented her process, and in the resulting video, she is seen in a white coat, resembling an archaeologist investigating ancient artifacts. The rubbings, preserved on stretched canvas, invite the public to re-examine these symbol-laden objects that so many pass each day in transit across the border.
