Description
- Los Angeles-based artist Michael Giancristiano elevates the ordinary material of plywood through a labor-intensive process of deconstruction and manipulation. The topography of his large-scale plywood wall reliefs resemble the surface of the moon, pitted with craters. Created through a collaborative exercise with participants from diverse cultures and social strata, the pieces are the result of a tremendous amount of kinetic energy, intended to mirror the process by which asteroid collisions form the moon's irregular surface.
