SAN Arts Program Participates in San Diego Design Week

Running September 9 through 13, 2020, San Diego Design Week (SDDW) celebrates interdisciplinary design in San Diego through talks, studio tours, workshops, and self-guided tours. The SAN Arts Program will be participating in SDDW by showcasing its diverse programming in performing arts, exhibitions and public art.

Self-Guided Tour:

An Artistic Drive

Did you know many of the artworks in SAN’s diverse Public Art Collection can be viewed without ever leaving your car? Print our easy to follow Self-Guided Driving Public Art Tour Map and take a leisurely (and safe!) road trip to enjoy large-scale sculpture, murals, and integrated artworks in a wide range of materials. View our webpage which has an interactive Google Map that corresponds to the tour-stop numbers and provides information about the name of the piece, the artist, and some background information. For your listening pleasure, there is a curated playlist of 27 songs featuring talented local musicians who perform regularly at SAN that can be played while on the tour.

Design Talks:

DESIGNAHEAD: STUDENT DESIGNERS AT SAN

Meet a new generation of emerging designers who participated in SAN’s DesignAHEAD initiative via the Arts Program. The latest iteration of DesignAHEAD was made possible through a collaboration with teaching artists at A Reason to Survive (ARTS) in National City. Listen in as students from Sweetwater High School District share their creative journey to develop innovative seating solutions for the airport environment using a design thinking approach. *This feature will be released on the SDDW event page September 9th and available all week.

Workshop:

PERFORMING ARTS RESIDENCY WITH BECK+COL

The Arts Program’s Spring Performing Arts Residency group, Beck+Col, launched their virtual residency at SAN at the start of the pandemic and created a series of voice workshops to show how to use one’s voice as an instrument. Follow along with Micaela and Chloe to learn how to properly warm up your voice and try your best to sound like one of their lumpy playful monsters. It’s a great way to get started exploring your voice! *This feature will be released on the SDDW event page September 9th and available all week.
